Sisters in Spirit

It seemed as if the sky itself wept on October 4 as about 125 people braved the cold and rain to take part in the Sisters in Spirit Vigil to remember missing and murdered Aboriginal women. The event began with a march around town, then moved indoors at the Nishnawbe-Gamik Friendship centre for speeches, a video and drumming by both men’s and women’s drum groups. “Over 520 Aboriginal women have been murdered or are missing in Canada,” shared Carmelia Agustin, Shelter Services Manager for the First Step Women’s Shelter.
