Sioux Lookout has been honoured by the national campaign offi ce for the National Day of Healing and Reconciliation, which named the town nationa host for the day on May 26.

Anniversary of the Apology

Everyone is invited to a gathering at the Friendship Centre on Thursday, June 11th at 7pm, to mark the first anniversary of the govenrment's apology for residential schools.  

It will be an evening of music and discussion, giving you an opportunity to reflect on what the apology means to you one year later.

The Community Coalition for Healing and Reconciliation invites you to an event for the National Day of Healing and Reconciliation.

When: 6 to 9 pm on May 26th, 2009

Where: Nishnawbe-Gamik Friendship Centre in Sioux Lookout, 52 King Street

What: Feasting, Speakers, Multi-media presentation and displays about local history and the impacts of the residential school system

There will also be a sunrise ceremony at 6 am on May 26th. Please call for more information.

Aideen Nabigon speaks to the public about the mandate and plans of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

About 100 people from all over Northwestern Ontario attended the “Let the Dialogue Begin” event held at the Sunset Inn and Suites February 13. The meeting was organized by the Coalition for Healing and Reconciliation, a group of Sioux Lookout and Lac Seul residents, including clergy, and the Sioux Lookout Anti Racism
Committee (SLARC).

The Community Coalition for Healing and Reconciliation is having a first meeting February 13 at the Sunset Inn. “Let the Dialogue Begin: Residential Schools – From Legacy toward Healing” will start the discussion of residential schools.
